Area girls pick up five medals

Hilary Stafford won the individual junior gold medal and led the Flames to the team silver as area girls picked up five medals Saturday at the OFSAA cross-country championships at Toronto's Centennial Park.

Stafford, who was fourth in midget in 2009, won her 3,800-metre race by more than eight seconds with a time of 14:12.29 and teamed with Cecilia Lamb (18th), Montata Portenier (32nd) and Katherine Marentette (82nd) to give the Flames 133 points.
